Your Father’s Prey

Anuj had gone on a holiday for one month and when he returns, he turned the key in the lock and opens the door. To his horror, he finds someone staring at him and then suddenly there was a loud crack of thunder. He saw that one boy who looked exactly the same as Anuj jumped out of the balcony. Before we move further let us start from the beginning…

Anuj is a college student who is the second boy of his college in Calcutta. He stayed in the hostel of that college. He had a small vacation of Durga Puja, so he went to his home to spend some time with his loved ones and end his boredom. But unfortunately, his father (who was the professor of Anuj’s college) died of a strange disease that could not be cured by any medicines or therapy. He was already not mentally peaceful and this incident happened.

When he returned to the hostel he turned the key to his room. It was a stormy night. There was a load shedding so he took a torch in his hand. His roommate and his best friend, Rony (who was the first boy the college) didn’t come yet so he had to stay alone for some days. When he entered the room, he saw a boy who looked like him jumped out of the balcony. He was horrified! He didn’t enter his room rather he rushed to the security guard, Anand. But when Anand examined the room, balcony, he saw everything was at their places. Then Anuj calmed down his mind and entered the room. He thought it was his hallucination after his mournful holidays.

He always had suffocation in that room after that incident. He couldn’t sleep! He was losing his concentration on studies and was gradually attacked by insomnia. So he asked his hostel’s superintendent, Ajay, to shift his room. Ajay said, “Yes! That’s a big problem but you should try to overcome it. There is one room vacant but you know that it is locked by your father before his death and it should not be opened as instructed by him. But, Anuj refused to listen. He asked Ajay to give him the keys and took his belongings to that room. The slowly settled in that room and could now sleep peacefully.

One hectic day, he came to his room and threw his body on the bed and slowly went to sleep. He had a dreadful dream and woke up he saw all his belongings scattered here and there. He closed his eyes and thought maybe he himself had done it and now he will have to keep the things at their proper places. He didn’t want to get up. He wished if Rony was there. When Anuj opened his eyes and saw two human feet in front of him. He stood up and what he saw was really horrifying. A boy was hanging from the fan. Seeing this, his voice choked. He couldn’t keep himself standing and fainted.

When he opened his eyes he saw he was in the hospital. Ajay was the first man to meet him. He said, “See! What happened to you? I told you not to stay in that room.” Anuj asked why that incident took place with him, why he saw all this and why his father forbidden anyone to stay in that room. Ajay said, “Your father wanted you to be the first student of this college. So he made Rony stay here for some days and he was promised that he get extra holidays… but who knew his holidays will be forever. Your father murdered Rony and hanged him in that room so that everyone thinks that he committed suicide.” Saying so, he broke into tears. Anuj didn’t say a single word. He called the police and the police arrested Ajay. Anuj’s face became red with anger and grief. With tears, he asked his friend to forgive him and prayed so that his soul rest in peace.

After recovering, he decided to leave the hostel. His things were shifted, so he went to the room to see if anything is left or not. Soon he found a note on the table, it said –

“Anuj,

Your father got the punishment for his wrong deed. Now you have to focus on your aim and proceed towards it. Remember your father did this to see you as a topper. Don’t disrespect his wish. This will let your father’s soul stay peacefully and mine too. Take care. Farewell …
